Title : “How to overcome the Five Emotional disturbances”

Synopsis:
The Five Emotional Disturbances are often explained as the Five Hindrances that affects our
path of purification of Sadha, Sila, Samadhi and Panna. For meditators, they in fact hinders
ones progress into Jhanas. In this talk we are shown the skillfull means to identify these
emotional disturbances and apply the effective ways to overcome them as taught in the
Suttas by the Buddha.

SPEAKER Profile: Bro. Vong Choong Choy
He has been in the educational field until his retirement in 1997. He has served as a
secondary School Principal for 17 years. He first studied Buddhism at the Brickfields
Buddhist Maha Vihara. Since mid-2007 he has been learning the Dhamma and Meditation
under the Venerable Dr. M. Punnaji. He is currently the class co-ordinator for Bhante
Punnaji’s Sutta Sessions at the Vihara. He conducts fortnightly courses on the Sutta Pitaka
at the Brickfields Buddhist Maha Vihara on Sunday mornings. Brother Vong is also a regular
Dhamma speaker at other centres in the Klang valley.
