Sun@BGF – Sakyamuni Buddha – First Psychologist in Human History with Low Mi Yen
About the Talk
Prof Dr Freedom Y.K. Leung, Department of Psychology, Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen, says that Sakyamuni Buddha was probably the first psychologist in the current human history. In this sharing session, Sis Miyen will explore basic tenets of Buddhism that have many commonalities with modern psychology e.g. the four Brahma Viharas have become important modern psychological interventions like mindfulness and compassion-based therapies, gratitude practice, etc.
About Sister Low Mi Yen
Sis Low Mi Yen first learned Dhamma and meditation at UKM Buddhist Fellowship in 1989. After graduation and over the years, she is still an active practitioner and frequent speaker at BGF, SJBA, KMBS, KLBMHA and several other Buddhist organizations. Professionally, she is a clinical psychologist working with individuals, couples, families, workplace and community for more than 25 years providing EAP, leadership coaching, corporate training, crisis intervention, psychotherapy, psychological assessment, lecturing and supervision.
*SPECIAL NOTE – Sign Language Interpretation by Sis Tan Lee Bee, a freelance Sign Language Interpreter for the Deaf, Court Interpreter for the Deaf, and a Tourism Guide. She studied at Gallaudet University, Washington DC, a private university for the education of the deaf and hard of hearing in 1985. She also appears frequently on Berita RTM doing sign language translation for the Prime Minister and other events.
